Hong Kong stalwart Ocean Lam makes her debut on a German label

Typhoon8 Records ambassador Ocean Lam has announced that her long-awaited EP on Berlin-based imprint Biotop is out today.

'The Same Boat' is a collaborative effort between Ocean Lam and Fresh Funky S, both having played an integral part in shaping Hong Kong's underground community. Now it's time to test the waters abroad in the world's de facto capital of techno, where they've both been welcomed to the Biotop family in Berlin. The label was founded by Patrick Zigo as an independent platform with idealistic approaches and is known for providing a healthy and respectful environment for innovative electronic musicians.

Ocean Lam came has carved out a name for herself amongst Hong Kong's key players with her Hypnotic event series and finishing off last year with a Boiler Room performance at Shi Fu Miz. Having forged a long time friendship with the founder of Typhoon8 Records, it was only a matter of time before she and Fresh Funky S took their music abroad.

The EP comes packaged with one collaboration and two solo tracks, showcasing Ocean and Fresh's love for rough chords, twisted acid lines, and raw analogue beats. A rework by Patrick Zigon accompanies every track on the EP. Listen to snippets below:

In turbulent times across the music industry, 'The Same Boat' is a strong sign of life from Hong Kong's fragile electronic music community. And in solidarity with the worldwide music community, the multilayered EP is dedicated to love, friendship and global understanding. "Especially in times like these, we must not forget that we are all in the same boat, and everything will be better after sailing through the storm - together!"

'The Same Boat' (Incl. Patrick Zigon Rework) by Ocean Lam & Fresh Funky S is out April 20 on Biotop.
