Hong Kong-based GTB treats us to some bilingual electro-rap
Reshaping Hong Kong’s youth through comical lyrics about social values
Not making themselves easy to define, GTB is an indie group based in Hong Kong, made up of singer-songwriter Serrini and electronic music producer Yeung Tung.
They’ve managed to find a way to infuse elements of rap, electronica and pop by presenting us with an album of bilingual comedy under the guise of materialistic and crass personas, using lyrics that are full of irony and humour with fluent Cantonese and English. They ontologically destroy and rebuild a new age of Hong Kong identities with their music, without care for secular values, easily captivating the Cantonese youth of Hong Kong.
Their new album ‘Whoa’ is adorned with a creative and thought-provoking cover by Illustrator John Wu which certainly makes you stop and say… whoa! Zentral Club in Hong Kong will be hosting a special Boxing Day show with the duo on 26 December.
