Heim Shanghai announces closure after three years of operation

Shanghai club Heim has announced its closure after its final event on July 20, 2024.

Heim emerged during the pandemic three years ago and quickly became a beloved space for intimate gatherings and dance. It weathered significant challenges, including the 2022 Shanghai lockdown and a post-pandemic music industry landscape.

The decision to close stems from practical challenges; “Our contract with the venue expires at this time. Since the space is located in downtown Shanghai, the high rent and unsuitable hardware conditions have ultimately led us to decide to relinquish the space.”

The team also expressed deep appreciation for the community that formed around Heim. “Your presence, your energy, and your support have been the lifeblood of Heim,” they convey via Mixmag Asia.

Heim's contribution to Shanghai's diverse music scene has been significant, relentlessly prioritising connection and community. “As an international city, Shanghai fosters a wealth of creativity. We've constantly sought to balance new sounds with traditional club music,” the team noted.

Looking forward, the team is contemplating a new approach to their operations, driven by the lessons learned from running the club.

“Much of what we do is driven by passion and intuition. The traditional club operation model and hours have been challenging, so we are considering a new approach to our operations in the future.”
