Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed... again

The release of Grand Theft Auto VI has been pushed back for a second time, with the highly anticipated crime simulator now expected for release in late 2026.

In a statement shared via Twitter on October 6, developer Rockstar said: “Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.”

GTA 6 has reportedly been in development since 2018; the first trailer for the next instalment of the Grant Theft Auto series, and the follow-up to 2013's Grand Theft Auto V, first dropped in December 2023.

The original release date for GTA 6 had been announced as "Fall 2025"; however, in May, Rockstar confirmed that the game had been pushed back for release to May 26, 2026.

Rockstar apologised for the second delay, citing the need for "additional time" to "allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."

"We want to thank you again for your patience and support," the statement continues. "While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern-day Vice City."

According to a description from Rockstar, GTA 6 will centre around two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, in a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired story set within the fictional Vice City and state of Leonida, first introduced in 2002's Grand Theft Auto Vice City — based on the real-life city of Miami, Florida.

"Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them," the description reads. "But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
