Goldie brings his ‘Metalheadz: 30 Since Forever’ tour to Hong Kong

Having significantly shaped the drum’n’bass movement over the past three decades, Goldie is currently touring Europe in celebration of his label, Metalheadz. Lucky for us, he’s included one stop in Asia on November 11.

Goldie shares exclusively with Mixmag Asia: “You can expect some time-travelling back and forth in terms of Metalheadz music, and to be quite frank a lot of the guys won’t know the difference because that’s how forward-thinking the music is; going both ways!”

After honing his production skills at Reinforced Records, Goldie established Metalheadz Records; a groundbreaking label that introduced seminal and darkly intelligent singles by artists such as Source Direct, Photek, J. Majik, Optical, Lemon D, Wax Doctor, and Peshay.

His pivotal album ‘Timeless’, released in 1995, solidified his position at the forefront of drum’n’bass.

At the start of the millennium, Goldie's musical journey underwent a significant transformation, marking a new phase in his production career. He released several notable works that solidified the distinct, raw yet profoundly emotive sound closely associated with both himself and Metalheadz. Tracks such as ‘Say You Love Me’, ‘Malice In Wonderland’, and ‘Breakin Glass’ played a pivotal role in shaping Goldie's distinct sonic style.

Simultaneously, Metalheadz experienced a period of prolific output. Over the decade, the label curated and released nearly sixty records, contributing significantly to the evolution of the drum’n’bass genre. This era also served as a platform for nurturing emerging talents, propelling artists like Alix Perez, Noisia, S.P.Y, and others.

Goldie also shares with us his take on Metalheadz’ 30-year journey. “It’s just a beautiful thing knowing that your label has lasted this long with its integrity intact in making some serious underground music that quite frankly will last another 30 years. Excuse the pun but it’s 'timeless music', and that’s what we pursue with the artists moving forwards…and backwards. That’s what it’s about.”

As for those wanting to start their own label, some words of wisdom from the man himself; “Just remember; a truthful idea lasts in the honesty of time!”

The ‘Metalheadz: 30 Since Forever’ tour lands in Hong Kong on November 11, where Goldie will be headlining alongside Ant TC1 who joined the Metalheadz roster in 2014 via the release ‘Hungry for Atmosphere’ and is now part of the label management team.

On support duty for the night are the Magnetic Soul crew (co-organisers of the event together with Salon 10) with their soulful, jazzy, liquid funk, and rolling drum’n’bass sounds alongside a special b2b set by fellow crowd-favourite bass purveyors, Mengzy and Ekki.
