The first official Tupac biography is coming out next month

The first Tupac Shakur biography approved by his estate is being published by Century on October 26.

Tupac Shakur: The Authorized Biography is written by author and screenwriter Staci Robinson, a childhood friend of Tupac Shakur who previously co-authored the 2008 book Tupac Remembered: Bearing Witness to a Life and Legacy.

The book is described as “a moving exploration of his life and powerful legacy, fully illustrated with photos, mementos, handwritten poetry, musings, and more”.

With special access and permission granted by Tupac’s mother, it includes exclusive access to private notebooks, letters, unpublished lyrics and uncensored conversations with his nearest and dearest.

Tupac, also known by the stage names 2Pac and Makaveli, quickly rose to become one of the world’s best-loved rappers in the early ‘90s, releasing four albums across 1991 to 1996 and selling millions of copies.

He was shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, after attending the Bruce Seldon vs. Mike Tyson boxing match with Death Row Records boss Marion "Suge" Knight. He died six days later, aged 25, and the murder has never been solved.

His legacy has continued to burn brightly since his untimely death, including a string of posthumous albums, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
