There is no better place for a festival this year than the middle of the Gobi Desert in Mongolia
Social distancing obviously won’t be an issue
It’s impressive what people are coming up with these days. And what better place in the world to throw a festival that no one can get to, and therefore social distancing won’t be an issue, than the middle of the goddamn desert.
That must be what the organisers of ‘Spirit of Gobi’ were thinking when they conceptualised their music and contemporary art festival. Organized by local electronic music labels such as The Majesty, Too Hype to Chill and Sunspirit Contemporary Artist group, the event takes place August 5 -7 and includes art installations, musical performances, yoga and meditation training, as well as a journey to the cliff White Stupa’. See the lineup below.
Why did they choose to do this in the middle of the Gobi desert? Well, it might be the last place on earth a festival can happen right now but also because the ancient and vast dry desert of Gobi is unique and spiritual, perfectly complementing the ethos of the event.
Aside from its spectacular arid beauty, sand dunes, mountains and rare animals, the vast Gobi Desert is known for being a historical fossil reservoir. The area belonged to the dinosaurs around 70-99 million years ago, making the region an important element to the evolution of nature and wildlife.
The three-day festival will be held in Ulziit sum, Dundgovi province 380 km from the capital of Ulaanbaatar. We're not quite sure how to get tickets to the event but if you find yourself randomly in Mongolia, head to ultra idyllic Gobi Caravanserai resort (Google that, I promise it's worth it).
