'Familiar Sounds Vol.2' comes fully loaded with future jazz and house

To celebrate a decade in dance music, Sounds Familiar have a trilogy of LPs planned for 2023 — the second edition is out now.

Titled ‘Familiar Sounds’ the second volume dropped on 1 September with six new tracks that seamlessly merge elastic acid house with the soulful essence of jazz. The release exemplifies the label's signature electronic jazz-infused sound and showcases the diverse talents within its roster.

The series introduced Volume1 in April and featured Dego, Kamma & Masalo, Aleqs Notal Feat Anu, Kai Alcé, Retromigration and Hugo LX.

In the second volume, the label continues to connect musical nodes through artists from the roster, delivering a refined LP that sonically stretches from elastic and eclectic house to intimate, dim-lit-room, piano jazz.

To get things rolling, Kaidi Tatham's uplifting anthem ‘Misguided Youts’ belts out infectious piano broken beat that fuses signature London broken-beat substance with futuristic tendencies.

Carista takes us on a deeper journey with ‘Love Me Right’, a dance floor gem featuring rubbery four-to-the-floor rhythms and dream-like vocal samples.

‘Summer Snow’ slides in with near-euphoric, sun-drenched opulence by way of Gigi Testa’s outernational vision of house and global grooves.

B-Side action starts with Zopelar's ‘Arapuca’, which takes us straight into jazzy, disco-infused house vibes. The track's skittish energy dances between muted trumpet improvisations, reminiscent of George Duke's ‘A Brazilian Love Affair’.

The Paris-born, Tokyo-raised artist Alex From Tokyo, who also goes by Tokyo Black Star, unravels a stripped-back, cosmic journey with ‘Wa Galaxy’.

Closing out the LP, K15 showcases his jazz-infused prowess with ‘Autumn’, a heartfelt solo piano ballad that reflects on the exuberance of summer.
