Electronic music fans are the most engaged listeners on Soundcloud, data reveals
The streaming platform announced findings that the genre is predicted to make up 22% of all plays in 2024
During a panel talk at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) on Thursday (October 17), SoundCloud revealed that electronic music listeners are its most engaged listeners.
Company representatives from the popular music streaming platform presented data revealing that fans of the genre are 52% more likely to comment on posts, 104% more likely to share music and 85% more likely to repost.
Electronic music is also expected to be the most-played genre on the platform in 2024, making up nearly 22% of all streams.

This shows a 6% increase since 2022, whilst uploads of the genre are also expected to go up by 21% since 2023, meaning more producers are using the platform to distribute and share their music.
Within the electronic music umbrella, it is house music that garners the most plays, listening time and listeners, with hardcore coming in second for plays and listening time and trance taking second place for the number of listeners and third in plays and listening time.
In April, a study by A2D2 revealed that house music was also the most popular club genre in the UK, coming out top in nine out of 16 cities.

This makes trance music the fastest-growing genre of 2024, increasing by 24% in listening time and 11% in listeners, over the past year.
In terms of location, Soundcloud revealed that most electronic music listeners are based in Belgium, Austria and Germany, while central and northern Europe as a whole has the most engaged and consistent users. Vietnam comes out third for the largest population of electronic music listeners.
