DJ creates web extension to adjust tempo of music on Discogs and Bandcamp

A Seattle-based DJ who goes by the name of nohup has created two free web extensions that allow users of Discogs and Bandcamp to adjust track tempos.

Available to install on Google Chrome and Firefox or download via GitHub, the tool adds a slider to your screen that can be moved to alter the speed of the track, much like the fader on CDJs.

You can also select BPM jumps in the form of ±6, ±10, ±16, or WIDE (±99%), and there is a "Master Tempo" option that prevents the pitch from changing as the tempo is being changed.

nohup, AKA Bobby Azarbayejan, first made the extension for Bandcamp in December 2022, while the Discogs Tempo Adjust launched this month.

The former also contains a BPM detection feature for both albums and individual tracks.

Speaking with Resident Advisor, Azarbayejan said: "I initially made Bandcamp Tempo Adjust for myself. I’m a big fan of chopped-and-screwed music and love experimenting with slowed-down tracks.”

"It’s been exciting to create tools that inspire new ways for DJs to dig and create," they continue. "I have more ideas in the works and would love to continue expanding these tools.”

The DJ has also launched a fundraising page where fans can donate to support the project and future developments.

A recent report by Music Radar revealed that more music is currently released every single day via streaming platforms than was released in the entire calendar year of 1989.
