DJ Noodles chosen to perform at 2020 NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen
First Tawanese DJ ever to play at the Japanese cultural event
DJ Noodles will perform at the 2020 NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen, a famous music contest with a long history in Japan.
Noodles has joined forces with legendary Japanese DJ Emma, and with this performance they hope to improve the impression of nightclub and party culture at an otherwise cultural event. Additionally, they want to convey the sense of Asian DJs cooperating across borders and cultural boundaries.
Previously DJ Noodles has teamed with Japanese singer Misia, who she met at the Taiwan LGBT Pride event. Misia’s team has picked many dancers from LGBTQ groups, and flown rainbow flags during her shows. This is significant for conservative Japan because the NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen is a historical show presented on the last day of every year. The annual event scores high ratings every year, and is watched by millions of people across different generations in Japan.
DJ Noodles has a long history in and around the LGBT community in Taiwan. Collaborating with pop singer Lara, her latest release was in fact inspired by her own unrequited love story. DJ Noodles waited to propose to her girlfriend until Taiwan legalized same-sex marriage last year, and her girlfriend ended up marrying someone else.
DJ Noodles started her DJ life in 2000 when she won first place in DMC (Dance Music Community) Taiwan – the first-ever female champion. From there she took off, becoming the first eligible female participant in DMC World Championships, and performing all over the world with celebrities like Britney Spears, Steve Aoki, Diplo, Paul Van Dyke and many others. Her career just keeps going from strength to strength.
