DJ Love featured in Michael Palin's Channel 5 documentary series on the Philippines
The budots pioneer took the legendary British travel writer to his "lair" in Davao City during filming for Michael Palin in the Philippines
Budots pioneer DJ Love features in a new documentary series from legendary British filmmaker and travel writer Michael Palin.
The first episode of Michael Palin in the Philippines premiered via Channel 5 on September 26, and follows the presenter as he explores the lesser-known landmarks and culture across the country's many islands.
In the final episode of the three-part series, which aired on Monday, October 12, Palin visits Davao City and encounters the local budots scene, with a familiar local guide in one of the sound's flag bearers, DJ Love.

In a video shared via Instagram yesterday, October 14, Palin describes discovering the fast-growing Filipino electronic genre, which he found "bewilderingly incomprehensible", and meeting "a man called Sherwin Tuna", AKA DJ Love.
"I loved his lair," Palin can be heard saying over a clip of him visiting DJ Love's studio. "He creates this very sharp, jarring electronic sort of music," he says, with producer Neil Ferguson adding: "Oh, it makes punk look like Beethoven."
"What I liked about the budots thing was that he used sounds from the street," Palin continues. "Police cars going by, dogs barking, a police siren. All these were sampled and could be used in his tracks."

Palin later confesses that he's a fan of the genre, revealing: "I have to battle against this image of being terribly nice. And that's why I like budots, because it's so utterly different from the church music I was brought up on."
