DJ HI-C explores minimalist magic on third EP ‘EN’
The five-track minimal techno masterclass out of Osaka drops November 30
Osaka-based artist DJ HI-C is set to release his third EP, ‘EN’, via his own label, aumrecordings, on November 30.
The five-track project is a refined showcase of minimal techno, with delicate layers and intricate soundscapes designed to “evoke the feeling of seeing sunlight through the clouds.”
At its core, ‘EN’ delves into the Japanese philosophy of "wabi-sabi", embracing the beauty of imperfection and transience. Each track on the EP offers its own distinct mood and identity, while staying rooted in the minimalist ethos DJ HI-C is known for.
‘Dorogawa’ stands out with its hypnotic blend of African-inspired rhythms and FM synths, while ‘Toyohashi’ shifts the energy with an uplifting and soothing vibe.
On the other hand, ‘Ashiya’ propels listeners into a high-energy whirlwind of tabla percussion and modular synths.

Our standout track, ‘Honmachi’, closes the EP with rhythmic stabs and a driving tambourine beat.
True to the minimalist aesthetic across the EP, the beauty of the song lies in the subtle details that reveal themselves with repeated listens. It’s a fitting conclusion to a record that speaks volumes through its restraint and nuance.
