Wigged-out astral travels on the UNSTๆ collective's 'Space Cadets Vol.1'
Bangkok's underground astronauts set a course for saucer-eyed intergalactic voyaging
Bangkok's UNSTๆ collective head deep into astral realms with their debut various artist compilation, serving 11 esoteric cuts on 'Space Cadets Vol. 1'.
Formed of More Rice Records team mates Sarayu,
DOTT, and Elaheh alongside Koish and Pati Mala, the crew have made
waves spreading their subterranean soundscapes across the Thai
capital and beyond. Fusing boundary surfing grooves from the
far-reaches of the dance underground, the quintet recently added a
label arm to their operations, and the new compilation is the second
release to arrive from the stables.
The expansive collection
features work from UNSTๆ members and
affiliates, with burgeoning artists appearing alongside some more
familiar faces. Rolling through grubby acid licks, stripped electro,
and nocturnal rave breaks, there's a distinctly saucer-eyed quality
to 'Space Cadets' throughout. Some of the many highlights include the scattered rhythms and paranoid synths of Michael Yume's 'Harbour', the growling acid and maniacal drums of 'Princess Jelly' from Takky, Elaheh & Sarayu, and the skippy grooves and shimmering synth lines of DOTT's 'Flying Schnauzers'. Elsewhere, Tristan Kino takes a late-night trip with the brooding bass and rave breaks of 'Bora', while Koish & Pati Mala join forces on the wiggy future electro of 'Golden Helmet', with its crisp drums, stripped melodics and subaquatic bass.
