Amid a fury of cancellations, Fuji Rock in Japan offers hope with its phase one line-up

We don’t all have crystal balls and have no way to know what the future holds, and all we can do remain hopeful that the situation will improve — fast. That’s certainly the way that Fuji Rock in Japan see it.

Japan’s marquee music festival has confirmed its return for 2020 (for the time being) to the Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata Prefecture on from Friday August 21 to Sunday August 23. As expected, the first phase line-up features some big names including Disclosure, FKA Twigs, Major Lazer, Floating Points, Metronomy, Derrick May and more. See the full phase one line-up below.

This year, the event is happening a few later than its usual time of year in July as a result of the Olympics. The Tokyo games are set to take place from July 24 to August 9 but are rumoured to be in jeopardy with travel bans and lockdowns unfolding all over the world amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said that the Summer Games will go on despite the pandemic, so we can only hope the same fate for Fuji Rock. That said, being that it’s six months away, here’s to well-wishing that Fuji Rock goes off without a hitch and this will be the first of many line-up announcements to come.

Fuji Rock takes place from August 21 to August 23 at the Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata Prefecture. Tickets are available here.
