Welcome to ‘Mengzy Selects’, a monthly video column which features recently released tracks by producers and labels in Asia and across the Asian diaspora. Your host is Mengzy: a Hong Kong-based DJ and producer, PhD in musicology, music journalist and co-founder of Feed the Dragon.

‘Calm&Collected’ is the 2-step vocal standout on Wantigga and DANN’s recent techno, bass and breaks-focused ‘Boogey’ EP. The Netherlands-UK link-up brings together Wantigga – real name Jonathan Tan – with fellow Dutch producer DANN and London-based MC, Subten.

Left, Right & Centre’s Korzi recently released ‘Hotline Ping’, a 4-track EP with a leftfield slow burn that hooked us instantly. Rolling at 123 BPM, ‘Foolish Antics’ features a distorted diva vocal sample that provides the perfect contrast to the Korzi’s distinctive bass pressure.

Amit dropped a Y2K time capsule earlier this month with an album grouping together and remastering tracks that were originally released on Commercial S****** Records between 2003 and 2008. The London-based producer helped shape the emerging halftime drum ‘n’ bass aesthetic with tracks like ‘S****** Bomber’, which is also on the album, but our pick is Reese stepper ‘Dual Sense’.

Electronic artist and environmentalist NOTEP shared her conceptual six-track EP, ‘PAKARANG’ on September 4. Reflecting her eco ethos, the Thai artist incorporated field recordings and even coral reef restoration into the project. ‘Purnama Flow’ was produced during a full moon and channels ethereal trip hop.
