Audio Asia Deep: 10 profound sounds from the subaquatic end of the dance spectrum
Check out our monthly round-up of eclectic gems from across the continent
Here we are again. Another month has passed and it's time for us to share with you our digest of the very best music we've discovered from Asia's deepest sonic purveyors. The volume of records and tracks released over the past month has been overwhelming, with labels attempting to capitalise on Record Store Day publicity. The result was an avalanche of sounds which were, quite honestly, a little difficult to navigate, with hidden gems tucked away behind special edition reissues and mountains of well put together but average fodder. We've done our very best to construct a well-rounded list, and October's selection is a genuinely eclectic assembly of distinctive sounds and cultured production work. Wherever in Asia you may be based, the seasons and the climate are changing, so here we present to you our continent's soundtrack to atmospheric metamorphosis. Made especially for those who prefer it profound.

The
remix package of Goldie's 2017 'The Journey Man' album contains many
highlights. One of the show-pieces is Calibre's sensational mix of
'Run Run Run', with its jazz-fuelled chord progressions combining
beautifully with the reflective vocal, the rolling drums power the
cut forward over emotive strings and dramatic breakdowns. Exceptional
work.
3 Cutmaster Singh 'Acid Agah'
Title: Acid Agah
Artist:
Cutmaster
Singh
Label: Masala
Release: Out now, you can buy it here
This
is an intriguing and somewhat mysterious project from Manchester, UK.
The secretive new label here shine a light on a lesser-known pioneer
of early dance music, presenting a collection of edits from
Leicester's Cutmaster Singh. The unsung DJ pioneered efforts to fuse
acid house with traditional bhangra music, and the results – though
not widely known – are highly impressive. Originally released in
1994, 'Acid Agah' is one of the 303-infused highlights, with its
deliciously grubby feel blending perfectly with the high energy tabla
groove and Indian instrumentation. Still sounds fresh and well
deserving of being given a new lease of life.
4 Sau Poler 'Bloom'

Release: Out now, you can buy it here
Deeply
introspective mid-tempo breaks from the Barcelona-based producer. His
debut release on Japan's Mule Musiq comes ahead of a full album due
to land this winter, this is a tantalising taste of what's to come.

one to watch out for.

Release: Out now, you can buy it here
Our
second inclusion from Goldie's 'The Journey Man' remix set, and when
you hear it, you'll know why. Jon Dixon turns the epic original into
a late-night trip that sits somewhere between deep house and techno.
Subtly driving, haunting and introspective, this heads-down groove
breathes new life into an already excellent piece of music.

Bali's
newest imprint Pantai People deliver some delightfully feel-good
disco on this one, courtesy of Austin Ato's respectful Bobby Womack
edit. The track comes as part of his 'Echo Beach Edits Vol 1', the
label's debut release, which has already been turning taste-maker
heads with the likes of Tensnake, Groove Armada and Skream showing
love. Spirit lifting sounds when the world needs them most!
7 Matthias 'Night Racer'
Title: Night Racer
Artist: Matthias
Label: Cabaret

Tokyo's Cabaret hit 25 releases with the 'Night Racer' EP from Matthias. The title track blends shades of new beat, electro, and disco with the techno feel we expect from the label, and the result is a hugely enjoyable floor-filler. The entire release, as with everything else from the Cabaret crew, is well worth checking.
8 Sonia Calico ft Taj Raiden 'Iridescent Vision'
Title: Iridescent Vision

Release: Out now, you can buy it here
Fusing
elements of rave, breaks and post-apocolyptic futurism, the Taipei
fire-starter shows impressive depth and range on her debut album,
'Simulation Of An Overloaded World'. 'Iridescent Vision' is one of
many highlights, its expeditions into paranoid breaks is as striking
as it is refreshingly hard to pigeon-hole. The album comes to us via
London's More Time Records and is sure to generate some heat for
Calico.

Kirk
Degiorgio's excellent new 'Day Of Reckoning' EP under his Templefeld moniker dropped this month, with the
four-track offering ranging in style from hyper-intelligent drum 'n'
bass to cinematic soundscapes. 'Vertical Life' is one of the highlights. One for lovers of mid-tempo introspections, this
track rolls beautifully as delicate synth work builds to create
otherworldly harmonies and bittersweet moods. It comes via
Singapore's excellent Midnight Shift label, one of many making some
serious noise in the city-state.
