  • 13 October 2020

Possibly one of the best things about this most challenging of years is that the months seem to be passing by at a surprisingly rapid rate. October is well and truly upon us, and confusingly, depending on where in the region you're based, it's either Autumn, the beginning of the wet season, or the end of the wet season. But wherever you are, the time has come for our monthly round-up of the best big room beats we've come across on our furious and unending searches through the new release sections. As ever, there is something for lovers of all shades of the more visible end of the dance wedge in this selection – from radio-friendly pop-house to dark and dirty main room drum 'n' bass. So, enjoy the list, and when going outdoors remember to wrap up warm, bring your umbrella, or pack your sunblock (subject to where you're situated right now).

Myrne and Salem Ilese

3 Wiwek ft MX2 'Stereoplein' (Yellow Claw Remix)

Title: Stereoplein (Yellow Claw Remix)
Artist:
Wiwek ft MX2
Label: Barong Family
Release:
Out now, you can buy it here

Club-pumping trap-inspired gold from the irrepressible Yellow Claw. Growling bass, hard snares and heavy atmospherics take Wiwek's lively cut into new territory. The ragga vocal is dispensed and the tempo comes down, but the result is no less compelling.

4 Valentino Khan 'Better' (DJ LIZZY Remix)

Title: Better (DJ LIZZY Remix)

Valentino Khan
Label: Mad Decent

5 Goldie 'I Think Of You' (Jubei Remix)

Title: I Think Of You (Jubei Remix)
Artist:
Goldie
Label: Metalheadz
Release:
Out now, you can buy it here

Jubei's fantastic remix of Goldie's 2017 release 'I Think Of You' had to make the list. Deep and murky, the wonky original version is morphed into an absolute club bomb. Rolling beats, bass in the lowest of octaves, and mercy, just wait for that drop!

6 Dipha Barus and Cade 'Down' (VIP remix)

Title: Down (VIP Remix)
Artist:
Dipha Barus and Cade
Label: Ultra
Release:
Out now, you can buy it here

This feel-good number was so good that it would have been rude not to remix it. The energy levels are increased with the help of tougher drums and a hands-in-the-air Italo house piano lick, but the catchy vocal remains to ensure this future classic retains its identity. The VIP Remix will introduce the song to a whole new audience.

7 Steve Aoki and Timmy Trumpet ft StarX 'Tarantino'

Title: Tarantino
Artist:
Steve Aoki and Timmy Trumpet ft StarX
Label: Dim Mak
Release:
Out now, you can buy it here

Steve Aoki's tribute to the Hollywood maverick makes use of the classic 'Misirlou' track which was one of the highlights of Quentin Tarantino's seminal Pulp Fiction soundtrack. The BEAUZ boys make it into the list for a second entry here, courtesy of this slamming remix of last year's viral hit 'Count The Hours'. Following the original's unparalleled success on the Chinese Douyin platform, where it was used in over 150,000 clips this year, and having been streamed over 60 million times on NetEase, BEAUZ invited some of their favourite Chinese artists to remix the track. The results are striking!

Manila-based Angelo Del Carmen dons his Parnassvs cap to drop this belting slab of heavy-hitting trance. Leviathan by name, leviathan by nature.

10 Tomoyoshi 'Mr Dynamite'

Title: Mr Dynamite
Artist:
Tomoyoshi
Label: Subway Soundz
Release:
Out now, you can buy it here

Main room drum 'n' bass with a big slice of fun from Japan's jump-up exponent, Tomoyoshi.
