New podcast Dances For Buildings celebrates global club culture

A new podcast series called Dances For Buildings is exploring the forefront of global club culture with interviews with some of the world’s most essential DJs.

Presented by DJ and broadcaster Emily Dust (pictured), the 10-part series features guests such as Kampala’s Kampire, São Paulo’s BADSISTA, LA’s Bianca Oblivion, and UK pioneers such as DJ Paulette, Roska, Gilles Peterson and Jamz Supernova.

Informed by valuable insider insight, the podcast covers memorable moments from these artists’ careers, from highs to lows, as well as their thoughts on the best experiences the dance music world has to offer and how they approach their craft.

Speaking about the series, Emily Dust said: “I’ve had some crazy experiences through DJing and music – from playing in a car wash in Durban to an abandoned apartment block in São Paulo – and I know I’m not the only one with stories.”

She added: “A lot of dance music podcasts tend to cover the commercial end of the industry; these aren’t the only stories to tell. In this seriesI’m refocusing the conversation to include more global and female voices and a wider range of genres under the umbrella of dance music.

“It’s a hard time for nightlife right now. I hope this series also celebrates, documents and reminds us of the importance of scenes all over the world that make club culture so special.”

Emily Dust has previously produced and hosted podcasts for the BBC, covering topics such as the struggles of independent venues, nightlife in Berlin and South African gqom. She also runs the Baile LDN party series and hosts a regular show on Soho Radio.
