Zhu delivers an alternative spin on Pokémon's 25th anniversary with The Blue EP

Over the past few months, Pokémon has picked back up in the market and not going to lie — that nostalgic feeling takes us back a decade back in time. This year, Pokémon celebrates its 25th anniversary and Grammy-nominated artist Zhu will be releasing three tracks in his Blue EP that will be out later this month.

The core of Pokémon has always stayed true to the traditional dual releases and this album, in particular, pays tribute to the original video games — Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. The Blue EP will feature three songs that Zhu remixed from The Red EP, which kicked off earlier this year in January with Katy Perry as their first artist. The songs that will be remixed by Zhu are: 'Mabel', 'Take It Home, Cyn', 'Wonderful & Vince Staples' and 'Got 'Em'.

According to the press release by Pokémon, the vice president of marketing at The Pokémon Company International, Colin Plamer stated that "The Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue video games introduced the world to Pokémon 25 years ago and we wanted to recognize that important part of the franchise in our 25th-anniversary celebrations within the P25 Music campaign. Pokémon fans will appreciate the nod to the first Pokémon video games with these EPs, while music fans will enjoy new songs and remixes from exciting artists on these dual collections."

Along with that, Zhu, whose release name is Steven Zhu, commented in regards to his personal love for Pokémon. "When I was young, one of my first Gameboy games was Pokémon Red version, so I’m happy to be the artist they called to create the 'alternate' version of this dual song collection a part of the 25th anniversary."

Zhu's third album DREAMLAND 2021 was churned out in his home studio during the pandemic and is brimming with dirty house and techno vibes. Over the years, Zhu's successes landed him on multiple charts such as Billboard's Dance/Electronic album charts with his debut album Generationwhy and multiple tracks in electronic charts as well. In 2014, his track 'Faded' copped him a Best Dance Recording nomination at the Grammys which in turn earned him deals with global brands such as Leica, Luminosity and more.
