ZHU turns home quarantine into 'DREAMLAND 2021'
The American-Chinese artist dreams hard about the future of the dance floor
A year without movement and being stuck indoors is enough for ZHU. He now welcomes us to ‘DREAMLAND 2021’, his latest full length album dropping today on the ever-growing imprint Astralwerks.
Conceived during home quarantine, most of the album stems from his imagination of the world propelling back into motion. And we’re slowly getting there, but ‘DREAMLAND 2021’ has made it there first. “DREAMLAND 2021 is about looking forward and creating a version of the future we want to exist in,” ZHU says.
Steven Zhu, aka ZHU is an American electronic music producer and singer who has been active since the beginning of 2014, and blew up on the scene with his hit single ‘Cocaine Model’.
The opening track “Distant Lights” is driven by energy that vibrates with potential. ZHU murmurs a few words towards the end of the track that serve as a sort of mantra for the LP: “I don’t believe that music, dancing, the freedom of expression will be suppressed for much longer. They can’t—that’s against human nature.”
