Zero State Kid flexes his unique take on technical d'n'b in latest EP

For a second time, Zero State Kid returns to Bristol’s Redacted in releasing his percussive two-tracker.

‘Code/Molecular’ calls attention to the West Bengali producer’s unique arrangements of clinical, crisp-sounding compositions that make him a frontrunner in the world of underground tech.

The EP comes as part of Redacted's latest series titled ‘Classified’, which label founder, Maximillian Singh aka Throe, mentions as “a monthly instalment of free download offerings for the community, branching away from the bootleg/gimmick-free download culture.”

Since its inception in 2019, the Bristol-based imprint continues to highlight an underground take on modern dance — its ‘Classified’ series serves as a vessel to further promote the sound of sublime up-and-comers.

“I had been making jungle and other styles [of music] for different labels, but for my previous Redacted release, I made tech d’n’b. So for this one, I wanted to develop it, make something more impactful, intuitive and impressive whilst staying true to the sound that Redacted had allowed me to experiment with,” explains Zero State Kid on his latest release.

His tweaking of technical drum’n’bass clearly manifests in ‘Molecular’, with a minimal soundscape that pairs perfectly with its dauntless bassline. The breaks-heavy almost-four-minute composition underlines one of many facets of the percussive genre, stripping it down to its bare essentials — “less is more” definitely rings true here.
