Yet another Bangkok club bites the dust as Live RCA announces closure
The club will close at the end of the month
There has been a lot of bad news out of Bangkok recently. With local underground music incubator Dark Bar closing its doors tomorrow, we were especially gutted to wake up to news just today that Live RCA will be closing at the end of the month.
While the official reason given is that rent costs are simply too high and the club has been unable to cover costs, this could very well be a direct reflection of Bangkok’s recent strict enforcement of curfew laws. The club opened in early 2015 and at its peak, Live RCA was closing around 4am but in the last year the club’s closing hours have varied from midnight to 2am or not even being able to open at all. We can’t imagine that a nightclub is able to sustain a steady income in such an environment.
Live RCA has been a regular host of electronic music and indie events. It has hosted names like Sven Väth, Catz ‘n Dogz, Crystal Castles, M.A.N.D.Y, DJ Craze, Booka Shade and so many more. It’s also been one of Bangkok’s principle purveyors of local music acts.
As a promoter, Live RCA still has some confirmed upcoming acts like FKJ and Claptone but the where and when has yet be announced.
"We will continue with our shows in other venues," the club said to BK. "We as a team are not going to stop doing our events."
As the music community in Bangkok is about to take another big hit, there is no end in sight and the city's notorious reputation for raucous partying will soon be no more.
