XICO’s new release ‘Ice’ Feat. STACO
Taiwanese collab is a cross-genre dance track
Taiwanese electronic producer XICO has just released a new track ‘Ice’ Feat. compatriot/rapper STACO to close out 2019 – the second collaboration between these two in the month of December. The first song, ‘Ping Pong’ was released earlier in the month.
XICO, a multi-instrumentalist with previous live band experience, thinks a positive new trend in EDM is cooperation between different genres. In this case ‘Ice’ and ‘Ping Pong’ are bridging the gap between the Taiwan EDM and hip hop scenes. And where ‘Ice’ is a hooky, downtempo smooth burner with jazzy chords, rap/singing and plenty of hip hop adlib cliches, ‘Ping Pong’ is actually an r'n'b track, albeit with some electronic stylings.
These two singles were released through Rokon, and more and more labels have emerged in recent years that blur the lines between genres as Taiwan’s dance music market has really started buzzing. As it continues to grow the traditional emphasis on singers (and rappers) has started to expand to producers and DJs as well. This development bodes well for the continued evolution of the electronic music scene on the island.
