"Thanks DHL": William Orbit's GRAMMYs broken in transit from London to Venice

William Orbit's three GRAMMY Awards have been broken in transit from London to Venice.

The legendary electronic musician and composer shared a picture on Instagram on Friday, March 13, of his damaged awards, writing: "Thanks DHL, for returning my three GRAMMYs to London from Venice."

Finding light in the situation, Orbit continues: "But it seems now instead of three, I possess nine broken bits of GRAMMYs. Which is a ‘humblebrag’ if ever I heard one. So I’ll throw in that my seven nomination medallions survived the trip."

Orbit received his three GRAMMY Awards for his work as a producer on Madonna's 1994 album 'Ray of Light', securing Best Pop Album, Best Dance Recording, and Best Song Written for Visual Media for the track 'Beautiful Stranger'.

The musician also received nominations for Album of the Year for 'Ray of Light, and Record of the Year for the album's title track. Further nominations include a Best Pop Instrumental Album nod for his 2001 record 'Pieces in a Modern Style' and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for his feature on P!nk's 'Feel Good Time' in 2004.

"Thing about GRAMMYS, and despite that I’m told that they maybe don’t have the same impact as a decade or two back, I wouldn’t say no to another one. More cause the afterparties more engaging when you are clutching one of those trophies," Orbit reflects.

"Mine, having been scrambled in transit, seem pretty repairable. A bit of solder, or wire, or whatever materials metalwork-shop folk might use to reassemble these tokens of a dream realised."

"They have those metal blast torches that throw out all the sparks you see in YouTube clips about factories and metalworking and stuff. Love all that. The smell of hot metal and oil," he says. "I quite like my ultimate humblebrag, a heap of brass and plastic Grammy bits lying oh so forlorn."
