Wicker Basket’s debut compilation teems with gut-punching breaks & headbanging selects
‘Koncian Vol. 1’ is Asia’s answer to Locked Club, Hermeth & all things heavy breaks
Indonesian collective Wicker Basket is gearing up to release their debut compilation LP, “Koncian Vol. 1” on cassette, teaming up with boutique label Winona Tapes and lifestyle brand AboveandOver for a physical drop.
Initially launched on streaming platforms in July, the six-track compilation showcases UK-sound-inspired rhythms produced by the collective’s members and their global diaspora.
Emerging from Yogyakarta as an event series celebrating jungle, UKG, breaks, and all things UK, Wicker Basket transitioned into a full-fledged label earlier this year. The compilation features core crew members Sanjonas, Morielic, Buff, and Felippe, with guest contributions from Klewang and Tanamur.
From the jump, ‘1992’ explodes with aggressive percussion, paired with PS1-era soundbites that inject a nostalgic yet frenetic energy. ‘Fake Network’ takes a cheekier route, combining garage beats with storytelling vocals, crafting a playful yet engrossing soundscape.

Flip the cassette and the mood shifts. The B-side gets murkier, diving into ghetto electro breaks, acid basslines, and grunge-laced guitar riffs, all underscored by eccentric samples. It’s a punchy, head-nodding record reminiscent of artists like Locked Club, Hermeth, or Kessler—straight balaclava business.
Among the highlights, ‘Soil’s of Heaven’ stands out, bridging the atmospheric vibes of the A-side with the grittier tones of the flip. Middle Eastern-inspired basslines meet hard-hitting breaks for a gut-puncher of a track.

The breakdown in the middle is a strangely serene oasis in the Middle East before bursting back with the breaks in full force, and encapsulates all that’s great about this compilation.
Wicker Basket’s ‘Koncian Vol. 1’ is out now digitally, with limited-edition cassettes (50 copies) available for pre-order via Bandcamp, courtesy of Winona Tapes and AboveandOver.
