Watch Taipei based techno DJ TzuSing on the very first Boiler Room in China

Boiler Room’s first foray into China was, like most things that come to China for the first time, pretty interesting. First of all, South African former Mixmag cover star Black Coffee was slated to play but wasn't able to appear. Fans got one hell of a replacement though – Disclosure.

According to Smart Shanghai however, while over three million people tuned in to watch Boiler Room live, the gig was seriously lacking one crucial sound man and the Funktion One soundsystem really could have used him. Also, a couple of Yankees apparently took over the mic and started cursing in Tianjin-hua (the local language) and the power was also cut to the whole venue at one point.

Besides Disclosure and a handful of other locals, Taipei based experimental and industrial-sounding black techno DJ TzuSing caused quite the stir online for his performance. Not just because he delivered an outstanding set of forward thinking techno but also because of his brilliant response to ‘that girl’ seemingly putting on her own show for the camera. After about 45 minute of her theatrical dance off with herself, all beautifully captured on camera for our amusement (or bemusement) below, TzuSing threw down a ghetto house track that chorused “Bitch, go home, to your daddy and your mama” over and over. Outstanding.

TzuSing is a Malaysian born DJ who spent time in Shanghai running Stockholm Syndrome, one of the cities most revered underground music series. He calls New York label L.I.E.S home and is no stranger to Boiler Room, having appeared on the live-streamed show before.

With Boiler Room now hitting 65 cities worldwide with their live-streamed invite-only underground music events, it’s about time the branched out into Asia (Japan being the exception, as usual). Here’s to hoping that Southeast Asia is next.

Watch the full performance here as well as all the other artists who appeared on Boiler Room's very first China gig.
