Tim Burton's Labyrinth immersive exhibition announces first-ever Tokyo stop

Tim Burton's Labyrinth, an immersive exhibition built around the filmmaker's work, is set to land in Tokyo. It opens on November 25, 2026, and will run through February 21, 2027, at Crevia Base.

This marks the show's first stop in Japan following runs across Europe and, most recently, Monterrey, Mexico.

Visitors will be invited to move through a non-linear layout, with over 150 possible path combinations, built from sets, lighting, projections and sound design drawn from Burton's films. No two routes are identical.

“Walk through the shadows of the forest, where the echoes of Corpse Bride will guide you. Encounter some of the endearing characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Immerse yourself in the sweet fantasy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and dare to say carefully: Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice,” mentions the official site.

Score cues and ambient sound design are used alongside physical scenography to shape each room.

Burton's involvement extends past directing. Before filmmaking, he worked as an illustrator and painter, and that background feeds directly into the sets on display, several of which belong to his personal collection.

His decades-long collaboration with composer Danny Elfman helped shape the gothic, theatrical sound now tied to his films, a sensibility that has run through goth, industrial and darkwave with a touch of whimsy.

Much of Elfman's work is also said to be highly influenced by Japanese culture.
