This coating could make your vinyl last longer
Nanotechnology is said to prevent scratches, warps and mold
Japanese company Ulvac could be the answer to all of your vinyl woes.
By using nanotechnology and the chemical molybdenum, which would be used to coat records, Ulvac reckons it's found the solution to wax being affected by scratches, mold and warps. Apparently the coating would counteract poor heat conductivity, solving the latter issue.
Basically, the vinyl being coated in molybdenum would strengthen the PVC records are made from, therefore making it harder for them to be damaged.
Ulvac put a selection of samples on show at Taiwan's Hi-End Audio Show and the company is said to have plunged around $4.6 million dollars into R&D.
