The Prodigy pay tribute to Keith Flint with memorial bench in Essex
The bench was placed at St Mary's Church on the seventh anniversary of his death
The Prodigy have paid tribute to their late frontman Keith Flint seven years after his death with a new memorial.
A memorial bench has been placed at St Mary's Church in Bocking, Essex, where the singer grew up and was later buried following his death in 2019.
The Prodigy shared a tribute on Instagram on March 4 alongside a photo of the bench, which is inspired by the band’s hit single ‘Firestarter’, as well as Flint’s iconic look where he would gel his hair into horns.
“7 years on. Always with us on every stage and on every drop. Miss you every day brother – raise the roof,” the band wrote, thanking designers Jason Shorthouse and Paul Bullen from Free Range Designs.
According to designers, the bench was one of their “most explosive and most secretive jobs", which was made with the approval of the band and family members of Keith Flint.
Speaking to the BBC, they explained: "It was essential that the entire piece was scorched jet black. Fire was not just inspiration - it was intrinsic to the creative process. ‘Firestarter’ blaring through the workshop as we burned and blackened the oak.”
"Whilst we had a lot of fun making this iconic bench, it has also been a very emotional process, as is often the case when we make memorial pieces. In this instance, we are remembering someone who reshaped a generation of music."
On March 4, 2019, Keith Flint passed away at his home in Dunmow, Essex, at the age of 49. Thousands of fans led a procession in Braintree following his death.
