Thailand is throwing a small island festival this weekend

As nightlife in Asia slowly springs back to life, suddenly there is hope for festivals, too. With several countries in the region almost entirely curbing the coronavirus (or are at least heading in that direction), festivals are officially back on the table — at least for people inside the country's borders.

After many months of a relatively strict lockdown, residents in Thailand are reaping the rewards of spending a few months indoors. Restaurants, malls, bars and more are bustling again — although with some precautions still in place — paving the way for clubs to fully reopen soon as well. The island of Koh Tao seems to be one step ahead and is organising a small festival on its sun-drenched shores.

Back 2 The Groove (B2TG) Festival will take place this weekend on the island of Koh Tao in southern Thailand, which is famous amongst divers. Set in the idyllic grounds of Paradise Zone of the Ko Tao Resort, there are 24 hours of music programmed across two days with 11 artists from around Thailand curating the soundtrack. The festival will also be powered by a Function-One sound system. See the full line-up below.

The festival is being co-produced by TAO (think Tao Festival a few years back), Exodus Events, Ko Tao Resort, Iconic Studio and Kandoo. Naturally, because it’s an island, the getaway includes fun scuba diving, free-diving, snorkelling and paddleboarding excursions.

In order to abide by social distancing guidelines, tickets and capacity are limited and must be bought in advance —no tickets will be available at the door. Find more information on the event here.

Back 2 The Groove (B2TG) Festival takes place July 25-26 from 12 noon to 12 midnight on Koh Tao. Get tickets here.
