Technics has launched a new turntable.
The SL-100C retails at £799 and is intended to be an 'affordable' option in the legendary SL series.
The SL-100C is similar to its slightly more expensive sibling the SL-1500C: there's an iron-coreless direct-drive motor and an S-shaped aluminium tonearm.
The drop in price comes at the loss of the SL-1500C's phono stage and it's fitted with a different cartridge too, Audio-Technica's VM95C.
However Technics' high quality construction is evident in a high-rigidity cabinet and a high-damping insulator which will keep low-end vibrations at bay as well as in a two-layer deadened rubber and aluminium platter design.
A tone-arm auto lift will also reduce stylus wear and make your life a little easier in general.
The overall aesthetic is super sleek too, boasting a minimalism that'll look great in any setting.
Technics product manager Frank Balzuweit said: “The huge success of the SL-1500C, offering a fully-featured package for the dedicated hi-fi enthusiast, with all the core Technics turntable technologies, has shown we have hit the mark within a popular and competitive turntable class.
The demand for this high-quality ‘Plug'n'Play turntable – having exceeded our own expectations – is still undiminished even to this day. However, there is still a strong appetite from the market to deliver a similarly attractive package at an even more affordable price.”
The SL-100C is available in Europe from June, with an announcement for Asia availability expected soon.
