Technics' first batch of SL1200 turntables sells out in half an hour

Technics’ first run of limited edition SL-1200GAE turntables, comprising 300 units, sold out in Japan within 30 minutes yesterday.

Japanese buyers were undeterred by the 50th anniversary models’ high price tag of ¥356,400, which converts to £3,300.

A Panasonic representative told Sankei Shimbun: “I didn’t think the price was too high as we have confidence in our brand, but I didn’t expect them to sell out so quickly.”

A further 900 turntables will be produced and sold for the international market, with UK outlets currently taking orders at the price of £2,700.

If you have the patience to wait, the slightly more affordable SL-1200G range isslated to arrive later this year.
