Technics DMC World DJ Championship brings 40th anniversary finals to Tokyo

The Technics DMC World DJ Championship 2025 marks a major milestone as Tokyo prepares to host the World Final for the first time.

After the success of DMC39 in Paris, featuring performances from C2C, Berywam, DJ Fly, and Bob Sinclar, DMC now celebrates its 40th anniversary finals in the land of the rising sun.

Since 1985, DMC has been pivotal in shaping global DJ culture, and Japan has produced talents such as DJ Rena, DJ Kentaro, and five-time Team Champions Kireek (the duo DJ HI-C is part of).

This year’s event—which is also the first-ever finals to be held in Asia—coincides with Technics' 60th anniversary.

“DMC40 Tokyo is here, and Technics are thrilled to sponsor this milestone event! With DMC’s 40th anniversary and our own 60th, this Tokyo Finals holds special meaning for us. We deeply value our shared journey in shaping DJ culture and are committed to making this the greatest DMC World Finals yet," says Masai Daisuke, Technics Global.

The 2025 tournament includes online qualifiers across Classic, Battle for Supremacy, Scratch Battle, and the Open categories, with the Japan Final set for August 30 at WOMBLIVE in Shibuya, ahead of the World Championships on October 11.

The deadline for the Classic category is June 15, 2025, while the deadlines for all other categories are on July 13, 2025.

Introduced last year, the Open category embraces the open format style with support from AlphaTheta.

“The Open category offers DJs the opportunity to showcase their performance skills on a wide array of equipment, bringing new energy and opportunity to the art of DJing and live performance, something we care deeply about,” says AlphaTheta EMEA Marketing Manager, Will Dinsdale.
