New Moog documentary explores the early days of electronic music
The first installment features the co-inventor of the Moog modular synthesizer
Synthesiser brand Moog Music has launched a new documentary series called GIANTS, which will use original music, imagery and more to explore the effect and legacy of some of electronic music's most influential personalities.
It features interviews with artists who give context for their role in the evolution of electronic music by sharing their thoughts.
The first episode of the series will feature Herb Deutsch, the composer and co-inventor of the original Moog synthesiser, as well as the person who proposed it include a chromatic keyboard.
The Bob Moog collaborator reminisces about his first encounters with electronic music, the context and process for his 1963 piece A Christmas Carol in the aftermath of the Birmingham church bombing in Alabama, the Moog Synthesizer Concert-Demonstration at the Museum of Modern Art, and much more in this episode.
“The artists in this series have left an indelible impact on electronic music history and culture, and their contributions have pushed the artform and industry forward,” Moog Music said.
“They are the 'giants' whose shoulders we stand on—the pioneers who propelled synthesisers and analog instruments into the mainstream many years ago.”
Trailblazers such as Herb Deutsch, co-inventor of the Moog synthesiser, Bernie Krause, Suzanne Ciani, and Daniel Miller, founder of Mute Records, will take viewers through their electronic influences and recount origin stories throughout the series.
New episodes of the docuseries will be released every four to six weeks on Moog Music's YouTube channel.
