Electronic music growth leads SoundCloud’s 2026 Music Intelligence Report
The electronic category makes up more than one in three uploads, with global listening up 6% & a 39% spike in #DJSET tags
SoundCloud has published its Music Intelligence Report 2026, a data-driven analysis of listener behaviour, scene growth and genre trends across its platform.
Drawing on platform data, the report shows that SoundCloud users engage with new music at nearly twice the rate of the broader industry average, with discovery driven by fast-moving, community-led scenes.
It also points to expanding genre diversity, with indie, reggaeton and multiple electronic subgenres gaining measurable ground year over year.
A major takeaway is that electronic music has become SoundCloud’s fastest-growing genre.
In 2020, roughly one in four uploads to SoundCloud were categorised as electronic; by 2025, that figure had grown to more than one in three. Since 2022, electronic’s share of total listening on the platform has risen by about 6 percent globally.
The report also details how regional electronic scenes are on the rise, with mentions of Vinahouse, Colombian guaracha, baile funk and Southeast Asian breakbeat combining electronic foundations with local musical traditions.
Across Europe, uplifting trance, melodic techno and hard techno continue to expand, while faster styles pushing beyond 180 BPM are gaining traction.
