Sought-after SOPHIE and LIZ collaboration ‘Sunscreen’ is out now

A highly-anticipated SOPHIE and LIZ collaboration, which has been doing the rounds since the start of the decade, has finally been released.

The track titled ‘Sunscreen’ was first started by SOPHIE and LIZ in 2018 at the former’s home studio in the Hollywood Hills, marking a follow-up to their effervescent 2015 link-up ‘When I Rule the World’ which launched LIZ’s career to new heights.

‘Sunscreen’ was never formally finished after their studio sessions but versions did pop-up in DJ sets, live streams - including SOPHIE’s ‘HEAV3N SUSPENDED’ live show in 2020 - and streaming platform leaks.

Now LIZ has formally released the track, finishing it with SOPHIE’s brother Benny Long and vocal engineer Suzy Shinn, marking the latest in a number of posthumous releases credited to SOPHIE, who died in 2021.

These have included a self-titled album in 2024 and full releases for two other tracks which had popped up in DJ sets over the years or only received limited releases previously - 'OOH' and 'GET HIGHER' - this year in an extended edition of ‘Product’.

‘Sunscreen’ lands alongside a video directed by James Orlando with co-designer Renata Raksha using an idea conceptualised with SOPHIE’s input, shot on the Greek island of Mykonos — a location which SOPHIE had once said she wanted to include in her creative work.

In a message posted on Instagram, LIZ wrote: “After all the years of rips, leaks, lore, and speculation, SUNSCREEN is finally here. SOPHIE always wanted me to put this song out, and I’m so grateful to Benny and Emily Long for being the loving and classy individuals they are, and for trusting me with the vision for this release.”

The statement concludes saying: “And to SOPHIE…your brilliance, your spirit, your friendship—I carry all of it with me. Thank you for believing in me. You continue to shape me and so many others; your impact is eternal. SOPHIE FOREVER.”

A limited edition double-sided 12" vinyl of both SOPHIE and LIZ collaborations is also set to be released, marking a decade since they first joined forces on ‘When I Rule the World’, available for pre-order now.
