Nice things are best enjoyed with nice friends. Strange Weather and Midnight Shift are teaming up for a little sonic excursion with Interstellar Funk, VT-00, Debbie Chia, Haan and Yadin Moha at the controls.
Interstellar Funk aka Olf van Elden needs little introduction to anyone with even a fleeting interest in Amsterdam’s thriving electronic music landscape. He started his career working at the famously influential Rush Hour record store; held residencies at iconic clubs Trouw and De School; been a regular feature at Dekmantel since its inception, recently taking on a new role as the festival’s A&R rep. His label, Artificial Dance, has been steadily putting out top shelf productions from genre-fluid artists like Genetic Factor, June, Dr C Stein and Hypnobeat. If you’ve been on a Strange Weather or Midnight Shift dance floor, you’ve probably already been getting down to some Artificial Dance.
Leading the list of supporting acts is VT-00 (pronounced as Vito), a live electronic musician from Ciputat, Indonesia. Combining elements of post-punk, EBM, industrial and 90’s rave synth sensibilities with provocative, distortion-drenched vocals in his native Bahasa; VT-00 burst onto the scene with his single Operasi in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. His fiery lyrics and gnarly production immediately resonated with a community frustrated with isolation and a dysfunctional establishment. He hasn’t looked back since, releasing impressive EPs Ultra Kolosal and Infra, continuing to sculpt a signature sound in his own unique image.
Completing the line-up are Midnight Shift and Strange Weather residents Debbie Chia, Haan and Yadin Moha - all pioneering stalwarts in their own right. Recently returning home from a stint in Berlin, Debbie will be showcasing her ethereal ambient explorations while Yadin and Haan rinse out their own respective brands of dystopian 4/4 stompers.
