Roland Boutique releases new wavetable synthesizer, n/vision

Roland’s n/vision is part of the Roland Boutique range, a series of compact instruments that draws on the brand’s synthesiser heritage while offering tools for modern music production.

Built around wavetable synthesis, a method of creating sounds by blending and changing digital waveforms, the n/vision gives producers a way to build everything from deep basslines and sharp leads to evolving pads and more experimental textures, with tools to shape each sound as it plays.

The synth features two independent sound layers that can be blended and adjusted, letting users combine different tones or shift between them.

Its modulation tools can make sounds change over time, from subtle movement in a sustained pad to more pronounced shifts in a bassline.

A built-in wave shaper adds extra harmonics, giving sounds more grit and character.

For further shaping, the n/vision includes a selection of filters inspired by classic synthesisers, alongside drive for adding warmth and distortion. Its effects section offers 17 options, including Roland’s JUNO chorus, as well as delay and reverb. A shimmer setting adds a higher, octave-like quality to reverb tails, which can help create more spacious textures.

Producers can build patterns using its 64-step sequencer, which records notes and parameter changes across two parts. An arpeggiator also generates repeating note patterns from held chords, making it useful for developing melodic ideas.

The n/vision offers up to 56 voices of polyphony, depending on processing demands, and can run on USB-C power or four AA batteries. It also features a built-in speaker, USB-C audio and MIDI, and standard MIDI connections, allowing it to work both as a standalone instrument and as part of a studio or live setup.

It sells for USD549.99; more info here.
