‘Reminisce 189’ features fresh twists & vibrant remixes from Santamonica’s friends

Santamonica have reintroduced their 2005 debut mini-album ‘189’ as ‘Reminisce 189’ on September 29.

The release offers a nostalgic journey into the duo’s early work, comprising remasters alongside remixes by their friends and fellow musicians Gentle Tuesday, Direct Action and Jon x Kon who breathe new life into Santamonica’s signature tracks.

The original mini-album by Anindita Saryuf aka Sistine and Joseph “Iyub” Saryuf featured the original tracks ‘Please Say Yes’, ‘Serenade of Yellow Park’, and ‘Sought & Found’.

“This new album is our gift to those who have been patiently waiting for a digital release, because back then it was only available on CD and in limited quantities,” explains vocalist Sistine.

Iyub adds, "Fortuitously, we had unreleased remixes by our friends, and the stars aligned perfectly to merge them into a cohesive album with a fresh concept, birthing 'Reminisce 189'."

‘Reminisce 189’ showcases Santamonica's diverse musical styles that traverse electronic-pop, indie dance, bossa nova, jazz, and indie pop.

As an added bonus, Santamonica also launched a re-imagined version of their hit track 'Ribbons & Tie' with an upbeat twist, accompanied by a semi-documentary music video.

Inspired by the wanderlust of a young couple they came across in 2018 who have been travelling around Australia in a camper van, Sistine and Iyub instantly made the connection to one of their fan-favourite tracks; “Their happy-go-lucky approach to life reminds us of the chorus in our song 'Ribbons & Tie': ‘We don’t need fairytales, we do it our way’,” mention the duo.

The music video comprises footage from the travelling couple’s adventures, filled with picturesque natural scenery and moments of togetherness.
