Entertain anytime, anywhere with Pioneer DJ’s newest upgrade of their rekordbox mobile app. The 4.0 version of ‘rekordbox – DJ App & Mixer’ allows users to replace a physical DJ controller with everything they would need to mix directly on their iOS devices.
Replicating the physical hardware, the app can be used on either an iPhone or an iPad and can also be directly linked to Pioneer DJ controllers via the Bluetooth option, USB cable or even wirelessly for some.
The app is currently free, however, to access subscription service plans for its cloud sync capabilities, advanced features and effects, you will need to spend a bit extra.
In terms of music, it works with your locally stored tracks and is also compatible with TIDAL and SoundCloud accounts (subscription required). Unfortunately, the app doesn’t support Beatport or BeatSource platforms — if your tracks are there, this app might be a pass.

A feature on the app allows for two different modes when your device is turned to portrait (for prepping of playlists) and landscape mode (for mixing, scratching and adding effects). Users will be able to add samples, sync controls, cue points, smart faders and change waveforms to name a few.
For those who would like to try a hand at DJing for the first time, there are tutorials embedded in the app. Once you’ve got the hang of it and would like to advance further into your bedroom DJ goals, you can upgrade to a beginner version such as the DDJ-FLX4.

According to the company, the Android version of the app is currently postponed until the iOS version runs smoothly. However, Android users are urged to look for updates on the Pioneer DJ website.
