Summer may have just passed, but thanks to Bali-based imprint Pantai People, the sunshine days have been extended.
We announced the label’s birth just over two months ago, but today you get an exclusive Premiere of ‘Bobby’ from Austin Ato’s surefire EP ‘Echo Beach Edits Vol. 1’ for under the sun fun.
It’s not easy to come across a label in Asia that curates releases of a classic disco-fied nature, which are basically straight forward edits, but with a feel of late 90s to early 2000 dance floor finesse, tight drum work and groovy basslines are thrown into the mix. Austin keeps the bar high when it comes to the production value of four exemplary edits that include samples from Sylvia Striplin, Tony Allen, Susana Estrada and of course Bobby Womack for ‘Bobby’. It shouldn’t take you long to figure out the other three.
Like the Pantai People’s press statement reads, “palm trees, pina colada’s and crystal-clear seas — Austin Ato comes through with that beachside business for Pantai People.”
And that’s exactly what the Scottish producer has done with ‘Bobby’ — four to the floor action that leads to hands raised to the sun while dancing barefoot on the beach and showing off the natural beauty of a beaming and ecstatic cheek to cheek smile.
‘Bobby’ comes out on limited pressed vinyl which has already garnered plenty of pre-release support via BBC Radio 1 from Annie Mac and from the likes of Tensnake, Groove Armada, Skream, Danny Daze and many more.
Austin Ato ‘Echo Beach Edits Vol 1’ can be ordered here on vinyl and will be released digitally on 16 October exclusively on Traxsource and on 23 October on all other digital platforms.
