On August 11, 2024, Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno sports complex transformed into a dance hotspot with Indonesia’s first-ever coffee cart rave, Jago Pesta, which roughly translates to “Party Champ.”

This event, led by DJ and producer Dipha Barus in collaboration with local coffee brand Jago Coffee, took inspiration from the traditional “dangdut keliling”—where music is played from carts moving through neighbourhoods—blending local street culture with electronic beats for a mobile rave experience.

Dipha Barus elevated the concept by performing live DJ sets from a customized Jago Coffee DJ cart, creating a mobile stage that rolled through the crowds. Following him were Jago Coffee’s mobile baristas, serving free coffee to anyone joining in the fun.

“‘Jago’ means champ, and our baristas are ‘jagoan’, meaning champions. In any collaboration we do, those involved become champions of something,” said Dena Almira Syanindita and Putra Sigar from Jago Coffee’s Branding and Partnerships.

Around 500 people of all ages and backgrounds joined the Jago Pesta, united by their love for music. They followed the parade of carts as it moved through the sports complex, vibing to Dipha’s remixes of his popular releases, classic Indonesian pop, and cult-favourite rock anthems.

“For me, music and coffee are best served with a double shot of inclusivity and togetherness. Music is for the people, and so is coffee, and both are deeply rooted in Indonesian street culture. Inspired by this, when I connected with Jago Coffee, my team and I saw the perfect opportunity to combine the two with this crazy idea. I want to thank the Jago team for believing in it and making it happen,” Dipha shared exclusively with Mixmag Asia.

Sharing his experience documenting the event, photographer Moses Sihombing mentions: "It was a blast! We’re used to hitting up clubs and music festivals, but this time we cruised around on bikes. The crowd was so random in the best way possible—grandparents, kids, and even dogs were grooving along. Dipha dropped a set that got everyone (including the pups) moving. Seriously, Dipha should do this more often!"

In the lead-up to Jago Pesta, Dipha made surprise visits to three Jakarta offices—USS Feed, Folkative, and MRA Media—on August 5.

Disguised as a mobile barista, he brought the excitement straight to employees, performing sets from the cart and turning a typical Monday into an impromptu celebration.
