Outdustry announces acquisition by Virgin Music Group
Founded in Beijing, the company aims to further its mission to "empower artists and make the world better" through the acquisition
In a landmark move for the music industry, Outdustry has announced its acquisition by Virgin Music Group (VMG), as shared in an Instagram post by the company.
Founded in Beijing in 2008, Outdustry has established itself as a leader in artist services and rights management, focusing on empowering musicians and music companies, particularly in emerging markets like China and India.
The acquisition is poised to amplify Outdustry's mission “to make the world a better place by empowering artists”, as mentioned in the Instagram post.
Over the years, Outdustry has built a reputation as a pioneering force in the music sector, recognised for efforts in marketing and rights management.
With a diverse team of 20 professionals based in China, India, Malaysia and the UK, the company has collaborated with renowned international artists such as Adele, Diplo/Major Lazer, Lauv and Dua Lipa, while also showcasing an impressive roster of Asian talent.
This includes up-and-coming Chinese musicians and songwriters such as EnjiA, Renjin Zhao, plus the anime concept project Xeuphoria.
The Outdustry roster also includes international names in the music industry, such as JORDANN, Laufey, plus EGOT winner John Legend

Under the new arrangement, Outdustry Records will operate as an affiliated label of VMG, while its publishing arm, Outdustry Songs, joins Universal Music Publishing Group.
Founder Ed Peto will continue as CEO, overseeing the integration and growth of their services while also joining the Virgin Music Group leadership team.
