Deadmau5 & Richie Hawtin are joining forces on an augmented reality gaming platform
PIXELYNX is the new platform from the developers behind Pokémon GO
Joel Zimmerman (AKA Deadmau5) and Richie Hawtin have joined forces with a team of game developers and technologists to create a brand new game: PIXELYNX.
With support from gaming industry veterans Ben Turner, Dean Wilson and Inder Phull, both musicians have put their hand in to create an augmented reality universe
The new gaming platform will be released following a recent deal signing with Niantic, developers of Pokémon GO, Ingress, and Pikmin Bloom, amongst others.
PIXELYNX will utilise Niantic’s Lightship Platform and the Augmented Reality Developer Kit (ARDK), a tool helping creators to develop games in AR, which "inspire movement, exploration and connection at a global scale."
The platform will also work as a "virtual world ecosystem" in which players can track NFTs and create immersive environments, while musicians can lead virtual performances and playable experiences.
Players can collect music, rewards, in-game assets and prizes as they traverse the new virtual world created by Zimmerman and Hawtin.
Speaking on the new project, co-founder Inder Phull said: “As we look towards launching our platform in 2022, the development of a mobile app that allows fans to collect new songs and NFTs in the real world was always part of our vision to create the music metaverse.
“Teaming with Niantic on their Lightship ARDK to develop our mobile gaming app, will ensure that fans are able to take our game with them wherever they go, blending digital and real-world experiences and enriching the fan experience in completely unique ways,” he continued.
