Nabihah Iqbal spotlights diverse sounds of South Asian artists in ‘DREAMER (Remixes)’
Listen to Sijya’s otherworldly take on ‘Sunflower’ for the EP out via Ninja Tune
Ninja Tune has just released a dazzling remix package of Nabihah Iqbal’s ‘DREAMER’ which came out early last year, featuring an ensemble of the artist’s selected musical contemporaries.
“All the remix artists also happen to be South Asian, and so it feels extra special to be able to highlight some of the amazing musical talent that is coming out of our community,” mentions the London-based writer-slash-musician.
Boasting remakes by Haider Uppal, Slowspin featuring Zak Khan, SIDD, and the enigmatic Sijya, all of whom have shared the stage with Nabihah, the EP becomes an extension of their artistic collaborations, creating an unparalleled synergy throughout. Naturally, each collaborator’s craftmanship shines through, adding even more allure to Nabihah’s original compositions.

A delightful addition to the EP comes in the form of a bonus track by Berlin-based producer Frank Wiedemann, remixing 'Zone 1 to 6000' from Nabihah's 2017 album, 'Weighing of the Heart'.

In Sijya's hands, 'Sunflower' undergoes a metamorphosis, shedding its layers to reveal a stripped-down essence. As she delicately peels away the intricate production elements, Sijya leaves behind a minimalist framework, decorated with a heavy bass drum and ethereal vocals, creating an intimate space where every sound is amplified.
