The founder and CEO of Japanese independent label group Musicmine, Hideoki Amano, has died aged 63.

Musicmine shared a statement confirming Amano's death on February 13, writing: "Our company's President and CEO, Hideoki Amano (aged 63), passed away on January 15, 2026, after undergoing medical treatment."

"We sincerely appreciate the kindness shown to us during his lifetime and ask for your understanding for the delay in informing you of this news," the statement continues. "We sincerely thank all of you for the support shown to Hideoki Amano."

Established by Amano and DJ and producer Manabu Yamazaki in 1994, Musicmine and its sub-label Sublime Records were at the forefront of the era's Japanese techno movement, debuting with Ken Ishii's 'Reference to Difference'.

Later forming off-shoots such as Less Than TV, Maryjoy Recordings, and Hot-Cha, Musicmine has been the home of over 1,000 releases, from the likes of Susumu Yokota, Tanzmusik, and Ayane Shino.

Ken Ishii paid tribute to the late founder via a post on Instagram, writing: "To me, Amano san was like a brother, a partner, a comrade that shared the good times of techno, and a lifelong buddy. We didn't see each other constantly, but it felt like we were always in each other's hearts. I'm so saddened by his passing."

"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to his family and the old friends who were taking care of him in the hospital. I truly appreciate you allowing me to visit him several times during his final two weeks, despite how difficult that period was for you. Please accept my deepest condolences," he continues. "Knowing you was one of the greatest things of my life, Amano san! Rest in Peace."

DJ Nobu also shared a tribute via Instagram, crediting Amano with "nurturing and managing me until my international career truly began."

"He trusted me with incredible opportunities like the Zero Set (Dieter Moebius / Mani Neumeier) remix and helped release several of my early works," his statement continues. "I will never forget his kindness and belief in me. Everything I am today is because of those experiences. I will keep growing and give back in his honor. Thank you, Amano-san."
