METOODJS launches fundraiser to support victims of sexual assault in electronic music
The campaign group says it has received "over 300 testimonies" from victims since it launched earlier this year
Campaign group METOODJS have launched a fundraiser to support victims of sexual assault in electronic music.
Launched earlier this year with the aim to provide a "trusted network to support victims of sexist and sexual violence within electronic music scenes," METOODJS urged victims of sexual assault to submit testimonies via an online form.
These calls were renewed in February amid the fallout from the hard techno scene's "#MeToo" movement, when multiple DJs from the scene were accused of sexual assault. METOODJS says it has received "over 300 testimonies" since then, with several victims now taking legal action against their alleged abusers.
METOODJS has now been recognised as an official association under French law, which it says has helped it transition from offering informal support to a "coordinated effort supported by a network of legal, psychological, and media professionals".
In order to support the group's work in ensuring victims can "access appropriate support without financial barriers", METOODJS has launched a 'Listen Support Act' fundraiser, with funds going towards legal fees and access to psychological care.
“We are committed to providing a safe and trusted space for victims, while ensuring that access to legal and psychological support is not limited by financial means,” METOODJS said in a statement.
"The association remains committed to transparency. While preserving anonymity, it will provide clear reporting on the allocation of funds and the support delivered."
