Matt FX’s new groove-heavy EP takes inspiration from his recent Asia & Americas tour

Matt FX is set to release his latest EP titled 'Aguacultura'; a three-track house and indie disco wonder, releasing with Mexico City’s Boyanza Records tomorrow (November 22).

This EP captures the essence of his 25-city, 14-country tour across Asia and the Americas, distilling his globetrotting experiences into three distinct sonic narratives inspired by three settings.

The opener, 'Atención Nosotros', channels the vibrant energy of Mexico City. Anchored by a rubbery bassline and smooth, spectral synths, the track feels brimming with personality. JNGLEJ’s hypnotic vocals add a punch, seamlessly blending into the groove and elevating the track’s infectious attitude.

Low-slung tribal rhythms intertwine with airy pan flutes and Matt’s signature synths are all over 'An Elephant in St. Tropez', creating a deconstructed, sleazy groove that feels impossibly cool. The weighty and commanding bassline is as monumental as its namesake, making it our pick of the bunch.

Speaking to Mixmag Asia on the inspiration behind the track, Matt FX says it stems from an “extremely high-end club in Florianopolis, Brazil, earlier this year, complete with Lamborghinis, rich whites, and plastic surgery—and I in turn felt a bit like a flailing circus animal.”

Title track 'Aguacultura' takes a sharp but welcome detour into ambient territory. Produced on a bullet train from Osaka to Tokyo, it’s a meditative closer that trades club-ready rhythms for serene introspection.

Layered with delicate textures and minimalist melodies, it’s a calming endnote that reveals a new side to Matt FX’s artistry—a direction we can only hope he explores further.

While the first two tracks are irresistibly groovy and exceptional in their own right, the introspective beauty of the ambient closer lingers long after the EP ends and really transports you to the serenity of Japan.

The project drops tomorrow, but for those eager, with 'Atención Nosotros' available to listen to now.
