Low Volume turn it up for latest 'Look Behind' EP on Sirion Records

The stories, tunes and talent bellowing out of the Indian subcontinent is almost too exciting for the moment. The quality bar has been consistently lifted by none other than the local producers and artists themselves. Today’s example comes by way of Pawas and Ambrish who go by the moniker Low Volume.

A cute backstory to their name comes from the time they met as neighbours in Germany which quickly led to them making music together — the name came about from having to work on their music at an unbearably low volume, obviously trying to stay clear of any unwanted noise complaints.

Diving into deep and progressive territory, Low Volume's ‘Look Behind’ EP traverses subtle melodies, minimal grooves and smooth atmospherics. ‘Look Behind’ leads the five-track EP with a meandering bassline and nuanced melodic tones — French producer Nhar follows the original with an injection of reinterpreted synths, taking the track right back to the 80s.

‘Apache Gold’ follows and impresses with a cheekily staged guitar hook that rides supremely alongside a tightly syncopated deep house rhythm. ‘Topsides’ sees the duo’s ability to diversify their style and sound, taking on a somewhat more funky and sophisticated approach to the track’s toplines, and Mastra takes his version a few notches down on the melodic work while pushing up the groove level with added drums.

The EP drops on Sirion Records, a Swiss music label based in Berne and Zurich which is run by three DJs and producers Fedja Haueter aka Feodor, Franco Ruegger aka Frango and Patrick Stucki aka Bird. The former are also the founders of Sirion Records.
